Cleaning enthusiasts have revealed a simple trick for getting a clean carpet - and all it involves is a 99p glass cleaner.

The craze was started by queen of clean Mrs Hinch, real name Sophie Hinchliffe, who insists a squeegee - commonly used to wipe car, bathroom or window glass - is the perfect solution.

Sharing her tip with her 1.8 million Instagram followers, Mrs Hinch, from Essex, reveals she gently scrapes the dry 'squeegee' over the carpet to lift away hair, dust and lint.

Mrs Hinch, real name Sophie Hinchliffe, insists a squeegee is the perfect solution to getting up those bits of fluff and hair that traditional vacuum cleaners leave behind. She later posted photos shared by followers who had also tried the trick, including this Instagram account

House-proud followers were shocked by how much fluff and debris was picked up by the squeegee, even after vacuuming. Pictured, one of the images shared by Mrs Hinch

Another fan showcased her results and captioned it: 'Oh my - when you think your floors are lovely and last night try a new trick and this happens'. It was later shared by Mrs Hinch

Holding up the shocking results that the squeegee picked up - a ball of hair and dust - it's no surprise her loyal fans were quick to jump on the bandwagon.

One wrote: 'Oh my - when you think your floors are lovely and last night try a new trick and this happens. 'Major squeegee cleaning after work tonight on ALL carpets and stairs.'

Sharing their results on social media, another wrote: 'This is my new mate! I keep looking at peoples' carpets now and want to get it out to clean.'

Meanwhile another penned: 'I'm so shocked at this! I Squeegeed my stairs which I hoovered before this and look at how much fluff I brought up.'

Mrs Hinch later took her squeegee to her mother's to clean with the squeegee, pictured

Squeegees can be bought for as little as 99p, making it an extraordinary cost-effective purchase.

Mrs Hinch was clearly pleased her hack was sweeping the nation as she reposted some of the success stories.

'Loving these pics! Squeegy your carpets Hinchers,' she encouraged, before commenting: 'loving all the squeegy results - can't beat it!' and 'love it! Keep going.'

Mrs Hinch later took her squeegee to her mother's to clean.

Sharing a second clip, she wrote: 'That's from just one stair. It's just build up - everyone will have it.'
