It's safe to say that North Carolina's favorite fruit is the strawberry. The state has nearly 2,000 acres of land dedicated to strawberry production.

You can sample some of North Carolina's best strawberries year-round. But you can save your berries for Strawberry Day, which is on Feb. 27. Besides having a snack, you can celebrate the day with strawberry crafts.

What are some great crafts you can do with your kids? How can you spread the holiday cheer? What are some gift boxes you can make with strawberry themes?

Answer these questions and you can develop your tastes in strawberries and in crafts. Here is your quick guide.

One of the easiest ways to celebrate Strawberry Day is to make strawberry pots. You can take an old pot that you haven't used and paint it with red and green paint.

Terracotta pots with wide openings and narrow bases tend to work best. Paint can dry easily on terracotta, and the shape of the pots resembles a strawberry. You should use acrylic paint and a large brush, though you can also use a small brush to paint on spots.

Flip the pots upside down and put them on top of some old newspapers. You can then paint them, taking your time to cover all surfaces of the pots. Let them dry overnight, and you can then use them to grow strawberries.

A classic strawberry pot is a tall planter with holes that allows strawberries to grow outward. You and your little one can create strawberry pots yourself, but they require a lot of time.

If you'd prefer something quicker, use a plastic tube and drill some holes. You can then layer strawberry seeds and soil inside.

You can also stack a few pots on top of each other. Place large pots toward the bottom and then stack progressively shorter pots on top, providing plenty of space for the soil. You can use painted pots you made earlier for an added festive touch.

Make sure you know how to plant a strawberry pot. You should fill the bottom of your pot with soil and add a potting mix over top. When you water your strawberry plants, you should use a sprinkler to distribute water in all directions over the soil.

You can help others celebrate Strawberry Day with festive greeting cards. For a simple card, you can place a strawberry sticker on a blank background. You can also draw or paint your own strawberry onto a card.

But you can get as creative as you want with your cards. Feel free to add lines like "I Love You Berry Much" and "I Hope You Are Having a Berry Good Day."

You can also make cards with strawberry shapes on them. If you need some help, you can download an outline with a strawberry off the internet.

You can then draw red stripes and black dots on the front of the card. You can spray some strawberry oil or water on the front for a light aromatic touch.

Websites like Etsy provide photos of strawberry cards. If your little one needs inspiration, they can take a look at different cards online.

Strawberry paper boxes are great strawberry crafts for preschoolers. They can practice their fine motor skills, learning how to fold paper using the tips of their fingers.

To make paper boxes, you need to have one sheet of red paper as well as scraps of green paper. You should also have a ribbon to tie your pieces of paper together.

Cut a circle out of the red paper. Fold the circle in half three times so the paper is divided into eighths.

Then draw a petal shape using a pencil. Cut the petal out of the paper and put a hole punch through the top of the petal.

When you open your paper up, you should have a flower shape. You can cut some paper out so the curves are smoother and the sides are more even.

Place your ribbon through your holes and pull on the string to bring the petals inward. Tie a knot and glue some green scraps of paper on top to serve as your strawberry leaves.

Before you tie the box closed, you can put different contents inside. If you need a pin cushion, you can add some foam or cotton. You can also place strawberries inside, though you should make sure the recipient can open the box.

After you tie your knot, you can then draw some black dots on the outside for seeds. Be gentle with your pen so you don't damage the paper.

Many strawberries turn white because of differences in their genes. If you want your boxes to stand out, you can make your leaves white. You can also glue white patches onto your red paper.
