NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Although we’re not quite ready to leave summer behind, autumn is coming up fast.

A small silver lining, though, is that now it means we can get our homes looking cosy as the evenings draw in.

This tutorial, from Anna-Marie Sorroll, is better still, costing just £1 to make your own quaint decorative pumpkin for mantelpieces and autumnal centrepieces all season long.

Anna-Marie, who runs thislittle_houseofmine on Instagram, shared the hack online, and it’s caught a number of crafty folks’ eyes.

All you need to recreate Anna-Marie’s pumpkin is a two-pack of mop heads from Poundland, a hair tie, and a twig.

The two-pack is important, because this set includes the woollen mop head that features on-trend white and grey yarn. Although you could use any other type of mop head, you want one that doesn’t look too much like a cleaning product.

As for your twig, find one that’s fairly short and stout, which will look just like a pumpkin stem (or peduncle if you’re feeling pedantic) on your finished product.

Hold the mop head up, and tie your hair bobble around the end, ensuring any loose strands are held in.

Next, split the middle part in half so it looks like a ring, before folding the head in on itself so the mop attachment and flyaway strands are hidden.

Give it a tidy and it should sit in a nice, round – and decidedly pumpkin-like – shape. From there, you can place your twig inside to make a stem.

It really is that easy, and you can experiment with different textures or colours, as well as adding decorations to match your home.

Anna-Marie’s post on a Facebook crafting group garnered almost 1,000 likes, with comments pouring in like ‘What a clever idea and so simple.’

Another wrote: ‘My house is gunna be full of mop head pumpkins’.

Given how quick they are to make – and at such a good price – same.
