If you've ever been a victim of spilled coffee grounds or uncooked rice, you know how frustrating it can be to get every last grain off the floor. While a broom and dustpan can be a satisfactory solution to the mess, it's inconvenient to get under tables and the recessed edges of floor cabinets. For a more thorough, less challenging cleaning job, the Dyson Omni-Glide Cordless Vacuum Cleaner might be exactly what you need.

 The Omni-Glide is designed specifically for hard floors (like wood and laminate) and can move in any direction with a simple flick of the wrist thanks to the articulating neck and multiple tiny casters located under the head. Soft velvety rollers take the place of a traditional roller brush, which aids in picking up debris and acts as a dusting cloth as you move the vacuum across the floor. Just like other Dyson models, it has a bagless bin that can be emptied straight into the trash. The battery gives you up to 20 minutes of usage per full charge, which is plenty of time for a quick sweep of most areas. 

I've been a fan of Dyson products for over a decade, but when I was sent the Omni-Glide to test for myself, I wasn't sure how useful it would be since I already purchased the brand's V8 Animal stick vacuum. However, as someone who now has wall-to-wall hard floors, a pet who sheds, and a kitchen that is constantly in use, I was looking forward to an alternative to constantly sweeping.

Upon opening the box, I was surprised at how compact and lightweight the vacuum is. Measuring just 3.5 feet tall and weighing 4.2 pounds, the Omni-Glide is easy to turn on and maneuver with one hand, and—true to its name—really did glide effortlessly in whatever direction I pushed it. Because of its compact size, my arm doesn't get tired like it does with a heavier vacuum, and it's also much quieter than traditional models.

Over the next few months, I'd used the Omni-Glide to pick up errant trails of flour and sugar, fallen dried herbs, and one particularly aggravating incident of a bag of panko crumbs I managed to spread across the kitchen. This vacuum made quick work of cleaning up each mess. 

Of course, the usability of this vacuum is not just limited to the kitchen—it slides right underneath our bed and sofa to snag any hidden dust bunnies, handles tight turns under and around chairs and tables, and hugs the baseboards in the hallways to pick up pet hair and other debris that are typically harder to grab with a broom. I've had it for a few months now and found that I used the Omni-Glide at least once a day to maintain dust-free floors. (It also converts to a compact handheld vacuum when you switch out the attachment, which is perfect for cleaning surfaces and corners.)

While the $449 price tag on this vacuum is quite luxurious, it's a worthwhile investment if you find yourself constantly having to sweep up, especially in your kitchen or dining areas. If you've got lots of hard floor to cover, the Dyson Omni-Glide will prove to be an excellent tool to have in your cleaning arsenal.
