Outdoor Tableware That Won’t End Up In Pieces

Entertaining outdoors has become, not just a South Florida pastime, but a national necessity in the last few years.

But spending time outside doesn’t have to mean balancing stacks of plastic cups. There are now a ton of options for outdoor entertaining that are just as stylish as they are smart: with a variety of color and patterns and hearty materials, your tableware can become a significantly less likely victim of party foul. Check out some stylish ways to make sure dining al fresco is always a fiesta and never a fail.

When the party gets started outside, you’ll want two beverage staples to simplify your hosting life: easy, breezy drinkware and a way for everyone to stay hydrated at their leisure. Plus, both should be strong enough to withstand guests dancing poolside. A great option for each of these is acrylic glasses — in styles to match your palate ad infinitum — and an acrylic drink dispenser. Fill the latter up with anything from water to lemonade to cocktails and enjoy your evening, no need for a broom and dustpan to clean up dangerous shards of glass.

Plates of plastic or melamine (another compound used to make reusable dishes and utensils) are good choices for outdoor dining. Though they will need to be washed by hand so they don’t get damaged in the dishwasher and shouldn’t get too hot lest they melt, their flexibility and style are top notch for al fresco soirées. There are even melamine plates that are designed to resemble tile, china and ceramic as well as plastic plates in a rainbow of hues, so you never have to compromise style for substance.

Upholstered chairs are lovely for dining indoors, but for outdoor spills and weather, they can get in the way of a good time. Instead, opt for chic and comfortable folding options. Not only will your seats stay stain-free, you can also put them away at the end of the evening. Metal chairs can get too hot in the sun, and plastic can get sticky to sit on. Try a lightweight wooden option for summertime flair. Plus, if there’s a little rain, you’re always in the clear. Add washable cushions in your favorite color for extra comfort and style.
