Scrub Mommy sponge review: Are they worth the hype?

Scrub Mommy Dual-Sided Sponge and Scrubber ($14.99 for a 3 count)

Don’t be fooled by the cutesy face on Scrub Mommy sponges. Although they look a little gimmicky, they pack a powerful cleaning punch. I recently tested one on some seriously stubborn stains and it outshined all the regular sponges and dish brushes I’ve previously relied on — even surpassing the original Scrub Daddy sponges, in my opinion.

My pans before using the Scrub Mommy sponge to clean them.

The true genius of both Scrub Mommy and Scrub Daddy sponges is the way their textures change in different temperatures. Use warm water to make them soft and pliable or cold water to make them more firm and abrasive.

However, the Scrub Mommy goes the extra mile with its dual-sided design. One side is softer, like a traditional sponge. The other side has the temperature-changing effect. The combination really comes in handy while tackling a cleaning task like the unfortunate stains you can see on my pans.

After several attempts to scrub them with my dish brush and even running them through my dishwasher a few times, I honestly thought I’d just have to live with these stains. I wasn’t too heartbroken about it, but when I read my friend’s review of the Scrub Mommy sponge and Power Paste, I saw a glimmer of hope.

I already had the Bon Ami Powder Cleanser sitting in my kitchen, so I used that instead of the paste for my test. I sprinkled it on both pans and let it sit for a few moments before scrubbing with the smiley sponge.

Miraculously, the pans were given new life! My favorite thing about the Scrub Mommy’s dual textures is how the softer side soaks up whatever cleanser you’re using. This way, you always have it loaded up with more suds to work with as you go. I also found that gripping the mouth and eye shapes helped me maneuver around the pan easier while digging into especially difficult sections. The spiky hair was great at tackling those tough areas, too.

I didn’t time myself, but I don’t think it took longer than 10 minutes to get both pans clean. They still have some scuffs and small marks that won’t budge, but I’m so happy with how much gunk the Scrub Mommy scraped away.

My pans look sparkly clean after using the Scrub Mommy.

I’ve been using my Scrub Mommy for about a month now and it’s still going strong. Of course, the longevity will depend on how often you use it and the types of surfaces you’re cleaning.

Another tip to keep it fresh and help it last longer: Pop the sponge in your dishwasher after using it to sanitize it. I also recommend getting a Scrub Mommy holder, like the Sponge Caddy, to let it air dry.
