From bagless to stick vacuums to canisters, Bissell offers a wide array of options for anyone on any budget. But the brand's cleaning appliance expertise goes beyond just vacuums. The Pet Hair Eraser Turbo Plus vacuum is a powerful, feature-packed upright vacuum for pet owners. This corded upright has a tangle-free brush roll and a hair spooling system in the dust cup that makes pet (and human) hair pickup — and the inevitable cleaning of the vacuum after — a breeze. It comes with three attachments, two specifically to tackle more pet hair messes. The sealed filtration system keeps allergens trapped inside the vacuum. The dust cup can be removed with the push of one button, and Febreze odor technology in the filter prevents pet odors from building in the device. It also automatically adjusts the height of the brush roll to go from carpets to bare floors and area rugs seamlessly. It has over 8,000 reviews on Amazon with 72% of raters giving it a five-star rating, and when we tested it in our Lab, we found it worked well. We especially liked how easy the dust cup was to empty and the convenient LED-lit crevice tool that lets you find all that hidden dust.

• Weight: 13.8 lbs. • Cord Length: 30 ft. • Attachments: Lighted crevice tool, two-in-one pet dusting brush, pet TurboEraser tool, extension wand with 7-foot hose • Dust Cup Capacity: 0.8 L

It doesn’t get much more lightweight than the Bissell Featherweight Stick Vacuum. Weighing in at just under 3 pounds, this bagless vacuum is a three-in-one stick, hand and stair vacuum with an easy-to-empty dust cup and a 15-foot power cord that can be wrapped around the handle for storage. The body lifts off the base to become handheld, so cleaning up everything from floors to countertops and furniture is possible. We haven’t tested this model in the Cleaning Lab yet, but we’ve tested dozens of other vacuums from Bissell and with over 79,000 ratings on Amazon, our experts expect this highly rated vacuum cleaner to perform well, too.

The Crosswave X7 Cordless Pet Pro is the newest model in Bissell’s lineup of wet dry vacuums. It can vacuum up dry debris, clean up minor liquid spills and mop your hard floors with no extra attachments. Controlling how much water is dispensed onto your floors is easy with the touch of one accessible button on the handle of the device. It has three cleaning modes: hard floor, area rug and turbo, plus a self-cleaning cycle that flushes out any debris left in the vacuum’s brush roll. In our testing, our experts found this vacuum mop easy to assemble and use and were impressed with its performance in our dry pickup and wet/dry combo pickup tests. LED headlights make it easier to see the dust in its path, and you’re never cleaning with the same dirty water thanks to its separate clean and dirty water tanks.

Automated cleaning is at your fingertips with the Bissell SpinWave Robot Vacuum. This little robot is a great maintenance cleaner, first vacuuming hard floors and area rugs to remove surface dust, then scrubbing hard floors to get them clean and shiny. In our tests, it cleaned hardwood and tile floors thoroughly, picking up pet hair and dry debris we didn’t even know was there. The tanks need to be switched when going from vacuuming to wet mopping, but they are easy to remove and empty when your robot is done cleaning. The SpinWave’s microfiber mopping pads are machine-washable and our experts found the brush roll easy to remove and clean. Plus, the mop pads spin as the robot travels across your floors, making sure that it is scrubbing and not just wiping them. The same SpinWave technology can also be found in the Bissell SpinWave Hard Floor Spin Mop, a top pick in our round-up of the best mops tested by our cleaning experts.

• Weight: 7.5 lbs. • Battery Runtime: 100 mins. • Features: Schedule cleaning in app, cliff sensors, soft surface avoidance while mopping • Dust Cup Capacity: 0.4 L

This cordless stick vacuum is a lightweight, powerful and simple option for those just looking for a vacuum for floors. The AirRam can run for up to 40 minutes on a single charge and because there’s no cord, you can clean without worrying about finding an outlet nearby. It performed impressively well in our pet hair pickup test on carpets and edge cleaning tests, plus is one of the quietest models our Lab experts have tested. You can lay it completely flat on the floor to clean under low furniture and collapse the handle to just half its size for easy storage. Rounding out its features are an easy-to-empty dust cup that pushes debris forward and into your garbage can and an easy-to-press foot pedal power button, the only button on this device!

In the Good Housekeeping Cleaning Lab, we have tested the hundreds of vacuum cleaners that have come through our Lab the same way. Using a custom-built vacuum testing machine, dirt is embedded into a test carpet, then each vacuum is passed over the carpet an equal number of times. By comparing the weight of the empty dust cup before testing and the dust cup's weight after testing, our experts calculate just how much dirt is picked up by each vacuum. Each vacuum cleaner's ability to pick up debris of different sizes and shapes like sand and dry pasta across hardwood, vinyl and tile flooring is also tested, along with how well they pick up faux pet hair from carpet and bare floors and how well they clean along edges.

Special consideration is also given to each vacuum cleaner's ease of use. These evaluations include testing maneuverability around tight corners and under low furniture, ease of switching cleaning modes, cleaning of the appliance, the weight and sound produced by a model and scoring each owner's manual for inclusion of all necessary information for use. Battery runtime, extra features and attachments included are also evaluated and noted for each model as applicable.
